Abstract
This paper studies the adjustment of working women in relation to emotional Intelligence and demographic variables, namely type of location, nature of job, work experience and income. The sample consisted of 530 working women (280 professional and 250 non-professionalworking women) randomly selected from four districts of Punjab state. The scales used to collect the data were as the Bell Adjustment Inventory (Bell,1961) and Emotional Intelligence Scale (Hyde et al. 2002). The result showed significant differences among the variables. This highlights the importance of emotional intelligence in the lives of working women, and is relevant for workers, administrators, educationists and counsellors, particularly in recruitment, as emotionally, intelligent working women were found to be better adjusted in relation to their demographic variables. It could also be helpful for parents, psychologists and employers to properly guide and channel the energy of women and to promote their mental and emotional health, so they can better adapt themselves to their environment or circumstances for themselves and for society.
Keywords:Emotional Intelligence, Adjustment, Location, Nature of Job, Work experience and Monthly income.
