Abstract
Numerous contemporary parents-workers today contribute to the survival and upkeep of their households. Prioritising and work-care balance is a recurrent concern. Undeniably, the local and financial demands of current society have an impact on their lives. This study explores the experiences of dual-earner couples combining career and family as well as the factors that influence parents’ choice of childcare centres. A questionnaire survey was spread via a google document among working parents, which generated qualitative and quantitative data and gave an insight into the views of working parents. The findings identified the impacts upon dual-earner relationships, and helped to identify how family provider and other family roles are divided. The responses gender role ideologies and the salience of family and work roles. The results also reveal challenges faced by the couples, for instance, the juggling the childcare. Surprisingly, it is discovered that working parents’ have a positive attitude in sending their children to childcare centres as long as they are taken care of when parents are out at work. Findings reveal that the main factor influencing the selection of childcare centres is quality of care, followed by physical environment, then availability at short notice, flexibility of childcare services, and lastly the cost.
