Why Wait for Your Talent to Walk
Volume 20, Issue 2, JUNE 2025
Ashley Callaghan
Introduction

year of full-time employment. She'd had a great year with many highs and lots of recognition
for her contribution. She'd won a number of accolades and was keen to progress. On a number
of occasions, prior to her annual anniversary, she asked whether she was going to be
promoted. She experienced something of a fob off and her line manager said that things were
in hand and he hoped to know something at some point. Simultaneously, the young woman was
approached by a competitor offering a position at a higher level with a 15% salary uplift.
