AUTHOR GUIDELINES
Original work
Submissions must be the original work of the author(s) submitting the paper, with sources acknowledged in full, and any quotations clearly designated as such, with full attribution. The same paper should not have been published previously or submitted elsewhere.
Scope of journal
The International Journal of Professional Management (IJPM) covers a wide area, reflecting the great breadth of professional management. The litmus test is Could this paper be described as helping with personal and/or organisational development? If it can, the subject matter is probably appropriate.
It also covers a wide variety of types of paper, from exploratory thoughts to completed research. It can be a short paper sharing thoughts that come from experience in professional management, with ideas that are not yet thoroughly tested, but could be developed. Publication in the journal may lead to further discussion and research. Other articles come from long and rigorous research, and these too may be developed further. No research is ever complete. We welcome case studies that illustrate aspects of management, and interviews that throw light on whats happening in the management world. We are also looking for the work of outstanding students, whether full-time or combining study with management practice.
All this will include a wide variety of opinions, and publication does not imply that IJPM necessarily agrees with the views expressed.
Length
IJPM is an online journal, and for this reason, authors should bear in mind that articles will be read from the screen. This means they should not be as long as would be expected in a printed journal. The guideline is a maximum of 6000 words, but they can be shorter, in some cases even as short as 1000 words. If an article is long, it is usually possible to divide it into two related parts, which can be published in separate issues.
Formatting
People have their own formatting styles, which makes for variety, but it is easier to put the articles into the IJPM house style if the formatting is simple. Arial, with bold headings, and straightforward bullets and numbering, suits very well. Diagrams and tables should be in a form that we are able to adapt them to fit into IJPM style.
Abstract
Papers should start with an abstract that sums up the content of the article in as few words as possible to make the content clear. This may be possible in 50 words, and 250 would be a rare maximum. Bulleted key points are also acceptable.
Keywords
Up to ten keywords can be provided. Theseshould reflect the core themes of the paper (anticipating possible search terms that might be used by a potential reader). These will be used to facilitate electronic searches based on content.
Tables and diagrams
Every diagram, table, or other illustration should be clearly labelled Figure 1, Table 1, etc. and it should be absolutely clear where they belong in the article. It is important to know the source, so there should be a clear attribution. If it is the authors work, it should say so.
Quotations
Quotations need to be clearly attributed to the person quoted, and put into quotation marks so that its clear where the quote begins and ends. Short quotes can be within the text. Long quotes should have their own paragraph.
References
References within the text should include the date. A bibliography should be provided at the end, in alphabetical order of the main author. Information provided should be: names of authors and initials, full title and subtitle, place of publication, publisher, date, and page references. References to journal articles should include the volume and number of the journal and pages. The layout should follow the convention:
