Organisational culture has an enormous impact on the success and performance of any type of organisation. During the creation process of a new company the personality of the founder has a major influence on the resulting culture. It is of utmost importance for every entrepreneur to understand this relationship in order to succeed in his or her business venture. This study aims to provide valuable insights on the topic and, in doing so, facilitate the development of better organisations.
Throughout academic literature authors hint at and discuss relationships between the concepts of personality and culture in the context of entrepreneurship. Yet, despite the large number of articles a gap can be found. There is no available information about how specific personal characteristics of an entrepreneur may influence the type of organisational culture that emerges. Given its high importance to the performance and success of an organisation this study contributes to these areas of knowledge by defining a more specific relationship between these concepts.
The conducted research could be taken further in several ways. Different or more detailed models of personality and entrepreneurship can be utilised in an effort to replicate results. Moreover, researchers can leverage a more in-depth approach to determining the personality of the founder or the culture of an organisation by emphasising on qualitative methods. Finally, future research may also try to reproduce the results in a different geographical or cultural environment.
The findings of this study contribute important insights to the areas of personality and organisational culture in entrepreneurship research. It shows how different personality factors influence the organisational culture within a young company. The results provide valuable information to future entrepreneurs and small business owners and can help them define their perfect organisation.
