Office Politics, Using the Positive, Stopping the Negative
Volume 10, Issue 1, January 2015
Ellen Henwood
Introduction
Office politics can be used in a good way. This is when people work to get their goals achieved, those goals being in line with organisational goals, and at the same time recognising the needs of others. Putting others at a disadvantage creates bad will, low morale, and is not good for the organisation.
Positive politics is about working towards the general good, while advancing one’s own goals. Networking is an example of this.
Negative politics is about playing political games to gain personal advantage, without concern as to whether it benefits anyone else or the organisation.
