Abstract
This study addresses the factors influencing job satisfaction amongst academics in a Malaysian private university. A conceptual model of job satisfaction is developed and applied in this study. Economic and environmental factors were both found to be important. These results provide some guidelines for improving job satisfaction among academics in developing countries like Malaysia. It could help policy makers to better understand and critically look into these factors to promote positive attitudes and behaviours. The extant literature shows that job satisfaction amongst academics is an under-researched area in terms of economic and environmental factors particularly in the sector in this study. Strategies to improve job satisfaction are suggested in this study.
