Abstract
This primer aims to provide a brief guide for designing effective online courses. It offers an overview of learners’ characteristics and their impact on learning outcomes. It presents the major learning theories and models for online education. Finally, it explores the application of Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction for the development of a well-designed online course.
