Training Transfer of Leadership Training

Training transfer can be explained as the degree to which employees successfully apply newly learned knowledge, skills and abilities in their workplace (Burke & Baldwin, 1999; Johnstal, 2013). Successful transfer implies generalisation, i.e. being able to adapt learned behaviour in situations that are similar but not identical to mock situations and maintenance, i.e. memorizing and internalising acquired skills (Baldwin & Ford, 1988).
Ken Blanchard Companies (2009) estimated that improved leadership practices could eliminate 5-10 % of productivity loss. Organisations spend a lot of money on leadership training to counteract these losses as it is nowadays widely acknowledged that successful leaders are not born but can be developed (Boyatzis, 2008; Davis & Luthans, 1979; Derue, Nahrgang, Wellman & Humphry, 2011).
