Abstract
The conventional Business Model Canvas (BMC) is widely accepted as an instrument for capturing aspects that differ from traditional organisations. However, there are some restrictions when it is applied to cooperative enterprises, particularly retail-based cooperatives in Malaysia. This article has a multi-method approach, using SWOT analysis of the BMC and in-depth interviews with cooperative experts. The resulting data were analysed using document analysis on the International Cooperative Alliance's (ICA) Cooperative Principles and Malaysian Co-operative Act 1993
