In Malaysia, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the mechanism of growth in the development of the country (Ramli et al. 2017). These make 97.3% of business establishments (Salikin et al. 2014). SMEs’ contribution to the overall Malaysia GDP was 38.9% in 2019 (Department of Statistics, 2020). SMEs also have contributed 48.4% of the country’s employment, providing employment for about 7.3 million Malaysian citizens (Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, 2020). This shows that SMEs play a major role in the contribution of economic development in Malaysia
